Emotional Needs of Cats
Taking care of cats is more than petting, feeding and cleaning their litter boxes. They desire a connection and bond with someone who cares for them. They also need an environment where they feel safe and protected.
They also like to communicate – verbally and non-verbally. A positive response a cat may give you is a distinguished blink while looking at you, different from just a normal blink. They also will purr and tread their paws when they are happy.
Sometimes it can be a guessing game trying to understand what a cat is telling you when they’re crying. They may be trying to get you to do something, like open the door for them or follow them to another room. Or it may be something more important, like the cat food is gone or the litter box needs cleaned. Sometimes they may just be talking.
Every cat needs more than food, water and shelter… they need love. A place to call home. Someone and someplace to belong to.
